A delegation from Ireland’s Future met with Sinn Féin president Mary Lou McDonald TD, vice president and First Minister Michelle O’Neill MLA and Senator Conor Murphy in Belfast earlier today.
Niall Murphy chair of Ireland’s Future said:
“We welcome today’s opportunity to meet with Sinn Féin. It was a constructive engagement that lasted for ninety minutes. We reiterated our view that a referendum in 2030 should remain a key focus for those of us who are working towards constitutional change.
“Ireland’s Future has a clear work plan and strategy. The coming twelve months are crucial on the journey towards achieving a referendum. We will redouble our efforts in the period ahead and ensure that our organisation remains both a platform and an umbrella for those seeking to engage in the work of building a new, brighter future for our children and future generations, regardless of background, nationality or identity.
“This work is priceless and we invest our time and resources diligently to ensure that when a referendum is called, people north and south will vote in overwhelming numbers for a new, united Ireland and shared future, on a shared island with division very much in the past.
“We thank Sinn Féin for their efforts on this matter and we encourage all other political parties to work hard in the time ahead to ensure society across the island is prepared for a referendum in 2030. The fast pace of change in the north and the tipping point nature of politics, attitudes, identities and impatience with London means a referendum in 2030 is very likely to be unavoidable.”
